A baby hummingbird fell out of a nest injuring its wing. A man rescued it and nursed it back to health, and in the meantime, mama hummingbird would come by and feed baby while it sat in the man's hands! Pretty incredible.

DO IT: things to put on your calendar this week
Julian Velard is playing two shows at Rockwood Music Hall- tonight and tomorrow, 9pm, just $5 at the door! I've seen him perform at Rockwood before, and trust me, they're going to be awesome shows. Check out the Q&A I did with him here!
The Coney Island Mermaid Parade is tomorrow! Get your pasties and your glitter (or at the very least your camera and sunscreen) and get there before the 2pm start to find a good spot to see all there is to see... and there's a LOT to see!
The Red Bull Air Race is this weekend, over NY Harbor. They'll be racing tomorrow and Sunday, with the best vantage points being Liberty State Park in Jersey City or Battery Park downtown. Basically, if you can see the Statue of Liberty, you'll be able to see these planes zipping around at eye level over the water. Zoom!

Civil Twilight, one of my fave bands, has released this new video for their single "Letters from the Sky". It's a really beautiful song! (I have an interview with Rich, their drummer, posting on Monday!)

Twilight Eclipse Soundtrack! (Yes, I'm an admitted Twilight fan... Team Jacob! ahem...moving on...) This soundtrack has a lot of original songs from heavy hitters. I really love Ours by The Bravery, My Love by Sia and Heavy in Your Arms by Florence + the Machine.

Sogni e Sorrisi is a fab mashup of fashion, design, inspiration, entertainment, and anything else that Connie decides to write about. I love fun blogs with pretty pictures and hers certainly fits the bill.
Habitually Chic is part interior design, part fashion design, and Heather pulls it off beautifully. Looking at photos of fabulous homes always gives me fun ideas for new apartment deco. And who doesn't love fashion?

You know that feeling when you're completely embarrassed for someone? The drummer in this video is clearly cut out for a gig on a whole 'nother level from this shingdig.
Tilt shift videos fascinate me... little miniature worlds pulsing with motion. Here's a collection of them for you to check out.

My tweep @snappletop posted a 1903 version of Alice in Wonderland with a shout-out to yours truly this week. It's pretty great! The first Alice in Wonderland film ever made- and only about 10 minutes long. The dormouse and cheshire cat appearances are laughably great.
Evan sent me a really silly video of a dog dancing to a techno beat... super funny.

I also downloaded the entire Gregory Alan Isakov album, This Empty Northern Hemisphere. Hugo recommended I download it for my trip. I'm loooving it! Very mellow and dreamy, perfect for my plane ride and lounging on the beach this weekend. All of the music on this album is really beautiful... I especially love If I Go, I'm Goin and Light Year.

Wish I had seen these on the streets of NYC! An artist makes inflatable monsters out of trash bags that come to life over subway grates- so cool!
Flash mob videos are always so comical... seeing everyone's reaction when a seemingly random group of people invades a calm place is hilarious. When it involves MC Hammer pants and Hammer's signature dance, well, it's even funnier.
This has been making the rounds this week, but if you haven't seen 6th grader Greyson doing his rendition of GaGa's Paparazzi, you definitely need to check it out.
