eat it: beauty & essex
I've been wanting to go to Beauty & Essex for months! Allie surprised me with birthday dinner reservations and took me out to celebrate. In case you've been under a rock, Beauty & Essex fronts as a tiny pawn shop on Essex St on the LES...
...but you walk past Dorothy's red shoes, vintage vinyl and the owner's guitar collection, and step through that back door into this:
The dining room is stunning! There is also a beautiful bar and lounge space, but we sat in the dining room and had a fabulous dinner. We ordered a bottle of prosecco and split the grilled apple pizzetta- a rectangular thin crust pizza with smoked bacon, bleu cheese and truffle honey. Sooo good! The menu is designed to split, but since I don't eat fish and Allie doesn't eat red meat, we ordered our own entrees. She ordered the branzino and I got the filet... both amazing. This was hands-down my favorite meal so far in NYC! Allie asked the waiter to bring over a molten chocolate bread pudding with a candle in it... we were already stuffed but the dessert was too good to pass up a few bites. It had a crisp shell on the top and was over-flowing with chocolate sauce and melting hazelnut ice cream. Delish! We hit up the ladies room on the way out to see if the rumors were true (It is! They totally serve champagne in the bathroom, ha!) and we were on to our next adventure of the evening...
do it: be the birthday girl
I'm feeling so loved today! It started with cupcakes from Butter Lane at midnight to ring in my 28th. In the morning I put on my rockin patent red pumps and headed to the office. I got lots of special deliveries:
Allie had these babies delivered to the office- Sugar Sweet Sunshine!! My fave cupcakes in New York City. Yum! We have a serious evening planned, including fab dinner, a Hugo show, and some after-partying. Big thank you's and kisses to everyone who's making my day (and week!) extra special. Cheers to 28 being the best year yet!
do it: root for the home team
It's no secret I'm a huge Red Sox fan. Weathering baseball season behind enemy lines can be trying at times... so I was amped when my best friend and I scored tickets to the first 2 games at Fenway Park! (Against the Yankees Evil Empire, no less).
We spent the weekend in Boston and reveled in the first win for the Sox, checked out the new players, and soaked in the company of our fellow fans. Such a good time!!
buy it: iron fist shoes
I was getting my makeup done for a photoshoot at my friend's studio and Jessica kept telling me to "look up". I had only just met her 5 minutes before, and she was already frustrated with me. Weilding an arsenal of brushes, powders, glosses and sparkles that any sephora fan would die for, I was stuck on her shoes. After pulling my chin up for the third time, I finally spoke up- "Where did you get those shoes?!" She kicked one off and pushed it towards my bare foot. "They're by Iron Fist." Um... want!
Jessica's shoes- the Oh No Platform Pump - $45
Limited Edition Moonshine Zombie Stomper (they glow in the dark!!) - $45
Bloody Mess Platform - $50
Sugar Witch Platform - $45
Muerte Punk Platform - $45
Their shoes are like graffiti for your feet... I love them! And they're super affordable- I'm so getting a pair (or three).
do it: be a queen
I've been messing around with Photoshop all day today in anticipation of getting my new heat press for printing tshirts. When I originally came up with the Loyalty 2 Royalty brand concept, I had a lot of ideas revolving around playing cards- specifically the Kings and Queens (natch). The faces on playing cards are so absurd... and they all look grumpy. So I used a photo of myself and posterized, desaturated, cut and pasted until it was my own features on the Queen of Hearts card. Ha! I have too much time on my hands...
But I have fun... and that's all that really matters, right?
