love it: brotherly love
My brother and I both have several tattoos-- and each of us have had tats done here in Nassau. This afternoon while we were sunnin' I suggested we get tats that go together somehow. All afternoon we were throwing out stupid and silly suggestions ("why don't I get a hoop and you get a basketball and together we'll be ballllllin!" ... "no, why don't I get a rim and you get a tire and together we can roll out") and finally I suggested dollars and cents symbols. My brother's nickname in our fam is Slew (from S. Lewis on his hockey jersey) and mine is Coley. So the 'S' and 'C' are our initials and are a pair as dollars and cents. I love 'em!
love it: empire state building
For the past four nights, the Empire State Building has been lit up in rainbow colors- each side of the tower and antenna were different colored lights. The ESB website has a lighting schedule, but no explanation appeared for the colors other than that it was a "private lighting"- I'm so curious! You can apply to be a "lighting partner" and choose the colors for an evening (I'm dying to know what that costs!) but they allow you to choose a maximum of 3 colors. Hmm... there's also a rumor that it was lit in tie-dye for the band Further- led by former members of the Grateful Dead. Whatever it was for, it was definitely a pretty sight out my window the past few nights!
love it: you should have been with me
Tonight I went to the launch party for Stan Shaffer's posthumous publication of You Should Have Been With Me- a book of his photographs from his heyday New York City and the beautiful people who lived and partied here in the 60s, 70s and 80s. He photographed celebs like Andy Warhol, Uma Therman, Jerry Hall, Angelica Huston, Janice Dickinson and Brooke Shields. The book includes notes and stories from Shaffer's friends, family, and photo subjects. The collection is a beautiful tribute to the times and also to Shaffer himself, who tragically passed away during the final stages of publication. The launch party was a celebration of his life's work and a reunion of industry peers, family and friends.
here I am! check out the rest in the gallery of photos on Guest of a Guest
I've had this dress for 3 years with the tags on it, ha! Glad it still fit! Stan's daughter (my good friend and co-worker) Allie took these photos.
love it: weekend with mum
I spent the weekend on Cape Cod with my family. I think I'm a New Yorker for life, but a weekend on the Cape is always a nice change of pace. Saturday I spent the morning with my brother who was killing me with DJ Pauly D impressions ("oh yah")... makes me laugh until I cry every time I see him. Then I went with my nana, mum and aunt to see my grandad at the nursing home. He's always got something funny to say when I see him. My nana asked him how he liked my new short haircut. He answers "she looks like Ella Cinders." None of us know what he's talking about, so I google her, and he's right! Ha!
I wore my new booties allll weekend... so in love. They're adorbs! They're part of my "New York clothes"- which are basically items of my wardrobe that I would never have bought if I lived on the Cape. These shoes absolutely fall into that category.
I always get to pick where we eat... and I drank more shirley temples than I can count!
I was searching my mum's basement for my ice skates and came across a stack of old photos... including this one of my first day of undergrad. I look absolutely thrilled that my parents are about to leave me there.
I didn't find my skates (booo) so Sunday my mum and I went shopping and she bought me a brand new pair! Woohoo!
I can't wait to get 'em sharpened and try them out at Bryant Park! So amped! My mum and I always laugh so much... it's exactly what I needed this weekend. This morning we went out for breakfast and a friend of hers introduced us to a very handsome guy from New York. We left before them, and she tells me to leave my card on his truck. So I did, and later got a text from the owner of said truck... totally not the same guy. Whoops! We died laughing. Was a great weekend, but I was still pretty smiley getting off the bus and seeing this:
There's no place like home!
love it: threadless select
Last week Threadless had a Twitter contest, asking everyone to tweet their fave Threadless Select item and 5 people would win their faves... and I won! I've been a fan of Threadless for a while, and their Select line has some great cuts and fits. The line features classic Threadless designs printed on uber soft tees, tunics, dresses and tanks. The item I chose was the True Love Will Find You In the End tunic- suuuper cute! (And will be even cuter with my skinny jeans and my new babies booties!) They even threw in a package of buttons and some stickers! Threadless is currently offering free shipping when you order a Select tee or hoody- get over there and capitalize on that!
