love it: another haircut
I really can't leave my hair alone anymore... more than 7 weeks without a haircut and I start getting antsy. I also can't go more than a few months without a *drastic* style or color change. I keep saying that I'm going to grow out my hair, but every time I go see Marisa at High Horse I manage to cut it even shorter than the last time. The past year or so I've been playing with assymmetrical styles... I've colored it black and I'm letting the left side grow out untouched and the right side and the back keep getting scissored down to fuzz. I'm in love with it!
love it: lorax converse
Dr. Seuss' The Lorax is everywhere these days (even in Central Park!). I'm a sucker for "different" sneakers, and this collection of Lorax themed Converse are so fun!
eat it: brunch at serendipity 3
My bff and I have been making a habit of weekend brunch lately. Last year he took me to the opera for my birthday and then we followed it up with a Broadway Sundae at Serendipity 3... unfortunately I had a migraine headache and couldn't fully appreciate the sugary madness of S3. We headed into the city for a do-over today, this time for brunch. We seem to encounter hour-long waits for breakfast everywhere we go, so we didn't mind walking around the UES after putting our names on the list.
I love the atmosphere in there... the Tiffany lamps hang super low and it's so cluttered with clocks, knick-knacks and mirrors that it's like a cozy little piece of Wonderland. I got french toasted challah (yum!) and a pot of tea.
Somehow we managed to save enough room to split a Frozen Hot Chocolate... sooo good! If you've never had it, schedule a visit with your besties. I'm sure we'll be back.
do it: get inked {again}
Last week I lost a very important lady-- my nana Iris passed away following a couple years of hospital stays and declining health. I credit my nana with my obsession with tea among other things (she moved across the pond in her 20's to be with my grandfather who she met while he was stationed in England). She used to pick me up every day from preschool and I spent countless hours at her house coloring, watching cartoons, feeding the neighbors horses (who ran to the fence when you whistled), and dunking Vienna Fingers cookies in hot tea fixed with milk and sugar. She had 5 children, 11 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren-- who all adored her. *** After a very bittersweet week spent at home on Cape Cod with my family, I wanted to commemorate nana with some new ink. I did my research and found Studio 28, a tattoo studio that offers custom artwork and has a pristine reputation. I brought a bunch of photos of irises to my consultation, and made an appointment for a few days later. Alex Alien did an *amazing* job on my tattoo!
The details and colors are gorgeous-- I'm so happy with it! It's my 7th tattoo, but the first one that's really visible (it takes up my whole inner forearm, wrist to elbow). I can't wait for t-shirt weather so I can show it off!
love it: neon accessories
The majority of my wardrobe is black, white and gray (I packed an entirely black and white wardrobe for Paris in September). I love making an outfit pop with eye-catching accessories, and a recent trip to ALDO Shoes had me coveting an awful lot of neon yellow:
1. Mease Pumps ($80); 2. Oginski Clutch ($45); 3. Hipps Handbag ($55); 4. Benejan Bracelet ($12); 5. Hord Handbag ($35); 6. Brimfield Wedge ($90)
