Crepes on Columbus

I really love crepes. I've had them at several places around the city... here are my faves!

Yorkville Creperie is less than a block from my first apartment in NYC. During my Us Weekly internship I lived on E 83rd between 1st and York... and Yorkville Creperie is right around the corner! Their sweet crepes menu has some indulgently over-the-top selections. Try the "sweet": white chocolate, cinnamon baked apple, graham cracker crumbs, ice cream and cornflakes (I'd suggest splitting it and getting some tea to go with...). They also serve fab paninis if you're looking for something a bit heartier. They have free wi-fi available, too.

I discovered Crepes on Columbus after a long winter walk through Central Park with my mum. When we emerged from the northwest corner of the park, we stopped at the first place we saw. What luck! I absolutely love this place, and have eaten here countless times since happening upon it three years ago. Service is a bit casual (read: slow) but they're very friendly and portions are generous. They also have amazing homemade soups and a full breakfast menu. Afterwards, take a stroll through Riverside Park or do some shopping at 808 Columbus Avenue (Michael's Crafts, TJ Maxx, Sephora, Whole Foods).

La Crepe Parisienne serves up crepes in a hurry, rolled into cone shapes that are easy to eat on the go. They also have seating for those who want a more leisurely meal. Located on Spring Street in SoHo, this spot is located in walking distance of the Angelika. Grab a crepe and an iced tea, and go see Winter's Bone- the winner of the 2010 Sundance Film Festival Grand Jury Prize.

do it: celebrate love

do it

I went home to Massachusetts this weekend for my friends' wedding. What a beautiful night! I left NYC at 10:30p on Friday after attending a dinner party, so I didn't arrive home on Cape Cod until 3am. I managed to muster fairly early Saturday to have breakfast with my mum and do some shopping before the wedding that night. I wore my Zac Posen dress, which thankfully traveled well stuffed in a bag during my drive...

The reception was in Hull, at the Clarion Nantasket Beach Resort-- so pretty! (We drove by a carousel on the way and were very tempted to stop to take photos... and wouldn't wedding photos on a carousel be amazing?! Just sayin'...)

The staircase up to the ballroom was gorgeous:

I always love unique takes on wedding guestbooks! (For my wedding we had one of our engagement photos framed with an extra wide mat that all of our guests signed.) When we got upstairs there was a table set up with a Fuji Instax camera, an empty wedding scrapbook and a collection of markers. Guests all took instant photos of each other, and we all pasted them inside the scrapbook with our well-wishes. Very cool idea. (Might need to steal it for my next wedding, ha.)

And this totally fueled my want for an instant camera too... I've been checking out the Instax mini for a while.

I had my first taste of clam chowder as well... which is only weird/interesting/noteable because I grew up in my parents' seafood restaurant on the Cape. I actually kinda liked it.

The cake was incredible! Every layer was different: strawberry, chocolate, oreo... yum!

And of course, the night was capped with drinks and lots of dancing...

Congratulations to the newlyweds!! xo

love it: my hometown

love it

Woods Hole, MA (photo by Ray)

I know so many New Yorkers (myself included) who couldn't wait to leave their hometowns and come to the big city. I grew up on Cape Cod in a small town where everyone knows everyone else, gossip spreads like wildfire, last call is at 1a, and restaurants close for the winter. I couldn't wait to move to NYC, where tourism isn't the only industry.

Now that I've lived in New York a few years, I've developed a renewed appreciation for my hometown. The seabreeze, fields, open space, friendliness of strangers, Main Street... there's a coziness and comfort to home that is lost in the brash abrasiveness of the city.

Time away has definitely made me see that there are a lot of great things about the Cape that I had previously taken for granted. I'm home for the weekend to see my family and attend a wedding, and I'm soaking up the salt air and sunshine, and breathing out a bit of stress. Enjoy your weekend!

SEE IT: art I fell for this week (legos!)
The world's skyscrapers in Lego form. (The Eiffel Tower is missing though... I know it's not a skyscraper but the STL Arch is there. Booo.)

MOMA art reinterpreted with Legos. Awesome.

This video of 4 guys watching the 2010 Miss America pageant is hysterical. The video is the announcement of the top 15 ladies... their reactions are friggin' priceless.

Something about Tavi intrigues me. Fashion genius? Prodigy? Internet sensation? Whatever you think of the 14-year-old fashion blogger, she's getting recognized by fashion elite.

buy it: summer vacation essentials

buy it

My vacation to Miami is confirmed! I'm leaving next Saturday for five days and nights in South Beach- woo! The best part: I'm going solo. I went to Florida by myself after my last major breakup, and it was amazing. Lounging on the beach, room service, sleeping in- it was incredibly rejuvenating. So after my rollercoaster spring and summer, I'm taking off again and hoping for the same results. I've never been to Miami Beach, but 2 things are sure to happen next weekend: beaching and clubbing. That said, here are a few things I'd love to throw in my suitcase.

DAY AT THE BEACH...

who doesn't need a teeny-weeny polka dot bikini? this one from roxy is adorbs! rock it with oversized sunglasses from armani exchange, neutrogena ultrasheer sunscreen, fresh sugar rose lip balm, and throw it all in this canvas beach tote.

MIAMI NIGHTLIFE...

I love this bebe dress... accessorized with these pumps and rose clutch- cute! Complete your late-night look with smoky stila shadow and red lip gloss.

It's pretty evident that I could buy my entire wardrobe at White House Black Market... I really love black and white with splashes of red, and white is apparently very big in Miami at the moment. Now all I need is my iPod... got any awesome beach/plane/club tunes I should download?! I'll definitely be putting together a Miami playlist (sans Will Smith please...)
