make it: tshirts
I spent all day today on photoshop, trying to harness my inner artist. Last year my boyfriend and I started Loyalty 2 Royalty, an urban clothing line fueled by my vision and his artistic skills. When we broke up I thought that was it for L2R. I have too many ideas and too much invested, so I sat down determined to make something work on my own. With some creativity (read: taking photos of things rather than drawing them freehand) I was able to bring my latest idea to life!
Whatcha think? It'll be on tshirts and hoodies this week!

SEE IT: photography I fell for this week
I attended a gallery reception for Melvin Sokolsky this week and am so enamored with his early photography. His Bubble series and whimsical style are amazing (my favorites are his chair photos, pictured above). I now aspire to own a print of his someday... swoon! You can see a selection of his photos here.
WATCH IT: videos I peeped this week that you should too
I'm not gonna lie... I'm pretty amped for the Harry Potter finale. A new trailer was released this week- looks pretty dark, can't wait!
The Guggenheim is hosting the YouTube Play Biennial, and have asked people to submit their YouTube vids. A collection of 100 finalists are currently being narrowed down to a top 20 to be played at kiosks in the museum itself. In the meantime, check out what the Huffington Post deemed the top 10 videos.
Radiohead put together a full concert video of their show in Prague, made entirely of crowd-sourced footage.

DO IT: things to put on your weekend calendar
This weekend is the DUMBO Arts Festival. Over 500 artists will be spread across the entire neighborhood today through Sunday, showcasing their work both indoors and outdoors. It's going to be gorgeous this weekend, so head over there! And if you go tomorrow, you can get a free NYHarborway ferry ride to DUMBO- plus Bike and Roll is renting bikes for free!
New York Craft Beer Week kicks off today and has a full calendar of brewery events, tastings, and parties. Get your drink on.
The Met Opera is opening their season on Sunday. There are still ways to see the Rheingold simulcast- for free on the Lincoln Center Plaza!
Sunday is Apple Day-- according to their website, "Apples on Orchard pays tribute to the neighborhood’s historical connection to apples. The Lower East Side was an apple orchard farm in the 1700s, owned by a French farmer named Delancey." The festival is located on Orchard Street between Grand and Broome Streets. From 11a til 5p, you can experience everything apple-related (I'm hoping they have pie!).
Threadless is throwing a book launch party with Etsy in Brooklyn on Sunday at 2p! Threadless founder Jake Nickell and various Threadless artists will be there to hang out and sign copies of the book.
see it: melvin sokolsky at the axelle gallery
I was invited by a magazine friend of mine to attend a gallery reception honoring photographer Melvin Sokolsky. The event was hosted by Real Simple magazine at the Axelle Gallery in Chelsea. Sokolsky is best known for his editorial fashion photographs taken for Harper's Bazaar, including his Bubble series, in which models were suspended midair in clear plastic bubbles above Paris. Here is a page from the booklet we received:
Sokolsky photographed Real Simple's September fashion spread, and the gallery displayed those photographs along with a selection of his most well-known photographs from the course of his career. He has a very whimsical style, and there were several photographs that I would die to have prints of. I especially love his photo of model Iris Bianchi with a giant chair- it's very Alice in Wonderland.
Sokolsky (right) shared his book, The Archive, with guests
It was a beautiful party, made even moreso with Sokolsky's stunning photography. We mixed and mingled, sipped white wine, ooooed and ahhhed our way through The Archive, and left with Uniqlo scarves which were featured in the Real Simple September Issue:
Was a fabulous NYC evening! Thanks to all!

buy it: new bedding
I've been slowly decorating my room, and have been dying to get new bedding. I finally went to Bed Bath & Beyond and found this fab grey and yellow duvet set to go with my grey furniture and soon-to-be blue walls. It was a bit of a splurge: butter yellow sateen sheets, a grey minky blanket, extra pillowcases and the duvet cover ran me almost $300. Yikes! I've been sleeping like a baby though... everything is so fluffy and soft! Perfection.
