love it: thea gives you wings

love it

A couple weeks ago I blogged about Metamorph and the amazing feather shrugs by Thea Toke, Metamorph's master of creativity. Needless to say, I put in my order pronto! With two bands of silky feathers and two detachable straps, you can wear them several different ways. Versatile, sexy, and a serious statement accessory... these babies are so coming with me to Paris. Dinner at the Moulin Rouge, anyone?

hear it: brandon reilly & ben thornewill

hear it

I went to see Brandon Reilly of Nightmare of You and Ben Thornewill of Jukebox the Ghost. I'm big fans of both bands, and seeing them do solo acoustic sets in a venue as small as the Studio at Webster Hall was something I couldn't turn down. They each played songs from their respective bands, but joined up to play a couple tunes together at the end. Hilarity ensued.

see it: sun dog over nyc

see it

Ever heard of a sun dog? Me neither... til yesterday. I often see gorgeous sunsets over the NYC skyline out my window-- it's a luxury I'm afforded by being 2 floors above all of the neighboring buildings in Astoria, and the reason I chose my apartment in the first place. Last night I noticed something odd in the sky-- it looked like a second sun. I grabbed my camera and snapped away, trying to figure out what it was. It was too bright to be a rainbow, but had a prism quality about it. I tweeted a photo and @vicnewyork replied that it was a sun dog. Um... what? After wiki-ing, I gather he's correct.

This is a a kinda messy panoramic stitch on my part-- but I joined 2 photos so you could get an idea of the whole skyline. Most of the photos of sun dogs show what appear to be 3 suns, one on either side of the actual sun, creating a halo or rainbow effect around the sun. Pretty neat thing to witness.

do it: get noticed

do it

Last night I went on a little test-run with my posters. It rained the past couple nights, but there was a spot on my subway platform that I'd been eyeing. I mixed up a small batch of wheatpaste, grabbed one of my posters and a paintbrush, and dashed over to the Steinway subway platform. I was nervous about getting caught, but it only took a couple minutes and no one objected to my pulling out a paintbrush and pasting an 11x17 poster in the empty ad space near the stairs. Once it was affixed, I snapped a few photos and went back to my apartment. I tweeted one of the photos, mentioning Nightmare of You- the band quoted in the poster.

Today I was amped to see that Nightmare of You retweeted my photo that I posted last night! I absolutely love them, and just knowing that they saw the poster made me super happy. Later this afternoon, lead singer and guitarist of Nightmare of You, Brandon Reilly, blogged my poster photo on his Tumblr page. I'm over the moon!

So excited to get a little buzz with my first poster. I've got a bunch more that I can't wait to get up!
