love it: montmartre et l'ile saint-louis {paris day 2}
Another fabulous (and exhausting) day! I walked from my apartment in the 1st arrondisement all the way to Sacre-Coeur, stopping all along my route to shop and snap photos. What a view from the top! It was well worth the climb.
I walked all around Montmartre-- what a beautiful place! The narrow streets, the creperies, sidewalk cafes, street artists... I loved it. I got a crepe and a soda and just sat on a curb soaking up the view. I really am smitten with Paris.
I also saw quite a few of Invader's pieces along my travels today-- I was amped!
I stopped home to drop off all of my bags and to write on the lock that I bought this morning. Yesterday I saw all of the locks on the bridge to Ile Saint-Louis and wanted to add my own. Couples write their names or initials on the padlocks, then either toss the key into the Seine as a sign of undying love, or keep the key to unlock it next time they're in Paris. I bought a lock today that came with 3 keys-- perfection! I wrote our initials on it, locked it to the bridge facing Notre Dame, and dropped one of the keys in the river. I have 2 keys left, one for me and I'll give one to my bf when I get home. <3
After adding my lock to the bridge, I kept walking over to Ile Saint-Louis. I had heard that Berthillon ice cream was the best in Paris. I got a cone and walked back along the Seine, snapping some pictures of Paris la nuit.
Bonne nuit! x
la seine et la tour eiffel {paris day 1}
I arrived in Paris at noon after taking the Eurostar train from London this morning. A quick ride on the metro and a few blocks walk and I had arrived at the fabulous apartment I'm renting in the 1st arrondisement, 5 minutes walk from Pont Neuf and Notre Dame.
I made some tea and toast and sat in this cute little window and did some catching up with emails and friends before heading out the walk around. I made a bee-line for the Seine and walked along the bank, criss-crossing back and forth over the bridges, snapping pics of absolutely everything. I was pretty amped when I got my first glimpse of the Eiffel Tower.
I walked past the Louvre and through the Jardin Tuileries (and stopped there for a lil picnic), before getting to the Eiffel Tower.
The line to go to the top was bananas, so I'll try again later in the week. I took tons of pictures while I was there though...
I want this latticework made into a tattoo somehow... that might be a project for me later in the week. I've gotten into the habit of collecting tattoos as vacation souvenirs.
I zigzagged my way back to my apartment, passing by Notre Dame, farmers markets, storefronts, cafes, public art, flowers and street musicians. I LOVE Paris!
do it: camden market and south bank {london day 2}
Today I got up early to see the changing of the guard ceremony at Buckingham Palace only to get there and find out that there was no ceremony today. Rats.
I did a little tour of Clarence House (where Prince Charles, Camilla and Prince Harry live) then headed to Camden. My boyfriend promised me that I'd love Camden and he was right-- it was my favorite part of London. Once you get off the tube, there's a long stretch where it seems every store is either selling sneakers or graphic tees or doing piercings and tats. My kinda neighborhood! I found the Stables Market which was a maze of vendors selling everything you can imagine. I got some really great souvenirs for friends, a couple Banksy t-shirts, a leather hooded bomber jacket, and lunch.
I left Camden weighed down with lots of bags, and headed south to the London Eye. I only had 2 days in London, and the giant ferris wheel was on my list of must-dos. South Bank is a really cool place to hang out-- I had dinner and a beer overlooking the Thames, was fab.
London was absolutely incredible-- I wish I booked one more day there! I'll definitely be back asap so I can explore more in-depth. But for now, off to Paris!
love it: cupcakes and cupid {london day 1}
I landed in London at 9am local time after 3 hours of sleep and still on NYC time of 4am. I found my apartment in Brixton with some help from my hostess, who picked me up at the train station. I little sprucing up and I was back out the door to take in all I could of London, since I'm only here for two days. I was feeling very tired and overwhelmed, so my first mission was to find Johnny Cupcakes' London store. The people working there were rad and I picked up a London exclusive shirt-- a tea cup, natch.
I did a double-decker bus tour, which wound up being a really fab way to see all of the main attractions in a short time. Plus I got to stake out places that I wanted to spend more time exploring tomorrow. Saw London Bridge, Big Ben, Kensington Palace, Somerset House, the London Eye... plus all kinds of art and monuments-- including Eros.
love it: bon voyage (pour moi!)
Bags are packed, my kitties are in good hands, and I'm outta here! I'll be in London and Paris til next Saturday-- lots of posts and pics to come! xo
