clockwise from top left: mix n' match alphabet earrings $36 pair, twist arc earrings $30, horsetail necklace $55, reminder bow ring $40, reminder bow earrings $50, horsetail drop earrings $70

I love the simplicity and elegance of by boe. All of the jewelry is handmade in New York City by designer Annika Salame using 14kt gold-filled, sterling silver, and a few vintage bits here and there. The vintage-inspired line is coveted by celebrities and is a favorite among fashion editors (they have been featured in In Style, Lucky, Cosmo, People and Nylon to name a few). Pictured above are my very favorite pieces- I'm especially smitten with the horsetail necklace and earrings. Shop online or swing by their brick and mortar downtown at 172 Prince Street.

do it: bowling at lucky strike

do it

Last night I met up with some friends on the (far!) West Side at Lucky Strike. Bowling can be uber expensive in the city- a friend and I once paid nearly $100 to bowl at Bolmor for a couple hours! Lucky Strike offers bowling from 8p-1a on Monday nights for a flat $22. I got off the train at Times Square, and made the trek over to 12th Avenue... which was much further than I anticipated! We got drinks and watched a bit of the Sox/Yanks game at the bar before donning our rad footwear and getting our bowl on. The place was a lot nicer than I was expecting- the furniture and lighting is pretty posh! (There was also some great portraiture artwork of Audrey Hepburn and Sophia Loren- which was random but cool.) There is waitress service at the lanes- we didn't eat but they have a surprising menu... tuna lollipops and tomato-and-cheese s'mores, anyone?! They also have cheeseburgers and fries if you're not feeling adventurous. (I'm not really a germaphobe, but the thought of eating finger food while bowling seemed kinda icky.) We had some technical difficulty with our bowling lane... it wasn't calculating our scores correctly, but they eventually switched us over to a different lane. All in all we had a good time- lots of laughing and high-fiving and booing each other. It'd be a fun place to have a party or go on a first date... just give yourself time for the walk and eat *before* you bowl.

see it: model citizens

see it

Last night I went to the opening reception of Model Citizens, a showcase of 50 independent designers' work. The show runs through tomorrow (Monday) night at 7p, so hurry over there! There are tons of gorgeous housewares, furniture, jewelry, and collectibles. My friend, Ben Light, is one of the many talents showing his work this weekend. He makes really great wooden lamps and mirrors:

Aren't these fun?! He also makes paper cranes then dips them in liquid rubber to make these rad mobiles:

^Totally fell for this unique, fun jewelry by Emily Rothschild. Her skyline bracelets are awesome!

^There's a store set up inside the gallery where you can buy some of the designers' work. I bought this gorgeous NYC metro cuff by Tiffany Burnette of Design Hype, Inc. Love it!

^This wee furniture would be uber cute in a kid's room!

^Squirrel for your wall?

love it: sunny saturdays

love it

I spent a good part of my afternoon today lounging on my fire escape. I got a super late breakfast at Brooklyn Bagel and crawled out my window to enjoy the sunshine on my makeshift terrace. Yesterday I downloaded several camera apps for my new phone, with lomo and antique lens effects. I took TONS of pics today of my view and Ms. Lily (and a few of myself). It's nice to have lazy sunny Saturdays once in a while!

WATCH IT: videos I peeped this week that you should too
Wish I had seen these on the streets of NYC! An artist makes inflatable monsters out of trash bags that come to life over subway grates- so cool!

Flash mob videos are always so comical... seeing everyone's reaction when a seemingly random group of people invades a calm place is hilarious. When it involves MC Hammer pants and Hammer's signature dance, well, it's even funnier.

This has been making the rounds this week, but if you haven't seen 6th grader Greyson doing his rendition of GaGa's Paparazzi, you definitely need to check it out.

HEAR IT: songs I downloaded this week
1. A Little Humiliation by Hugo 2. Cockroach by Hugo 3. Gila by Beach House 4. Heart of Chambers by Beach House 5. Astronaut by Beach House 6. Apple Orchard by Beach House

FOLLOW IT: blog I discovered this week
The hilarious note above was one of the items found and submitted to FoundMagazine.com- a blog that curates unusual and silly notes and things found by their readers. (I wonder if anyone brought the dude a juice box...)

DO IT: things to put on your calendar this week
The 2nd annual Model Citizens NYC - An exhibit running tomorrow through Monday, featuring nearly 50 designers of furniture, ceramic, glass and jewelry. Opening reception is tomorrow night from 5-8p. My friend Ben Light is one of the featured designers who will have his work on display. The gallery is located on 36th Street between 10th and 11th Avenues. Check it out and support independent design!

The New York Photo Festival is going on now through Sunday in 12 different galleries across Dumbo. Check out a venue or two before it's gone! You can view the full schedule of events here.
