do it: skate at wollman rink

do it

I finally got to try out my new ice skates! After getting shut down twice trying to get my skates sharpened at Citi Pond in Bryant Park, I went to Wollman Rink after work today. Getting my skates sharpened there was the same price as Citi Pond ($20... which is ludicrous considering it's $3 back in my hometown) but I had to pay $10.50 to skate at Wollman (Citi Pond has no admission fee). Wollman wasn't busy at all though, so I got to skate at a good speed without people falling in front of me or chains of 7 shaky tourists holding hands getting in the way. I'll probably still drop by Bryant Park before it closes next month since it'll be free, but I think Wollman will be my go-to rink from now on.

Tip: bring your own lock for the lockers- renting them costs $10.50 and they won't let you bring any bags or purses on the ice. Bring cash (it's Trump's place after all... cash only). Oh- and the hot chocolate with marshmallows was goood (even at $4.50).

eat it: giovanna's

eat it

My college roommate Katie was in town this weekend for a visit, and we made our regular trip down to Little Italy for the evening. After walking up and down Mulberry Street and being propositioned by Italian waiters outside every restaurant there is, we chose Giovanna's- a hole-in-the-wall authentic Italian joint with a hearty menu. We opted out of the wine (since a night of barhopping was on the agenda) and indulged in fresh bread with a garlic olive oil (I joked about bringing this home with me... unbelievable oil blend, yum!) and huge portions of pasta and chicken parmigiana.

And as always, any trip to Little Italy is incomplete without a trip to Ferrara's cafe and bakery for dessert! Cannolis and palmiers, please!

do it: go to wonka

do it

Katie and I played tourist this weekend, and made a romp through Times Square. We made a stop at Toys R Us and proceeded to act like 5 year olds at the Wonka factory

Bins of Spree, SweeTarts, Nerds, Bottle Caps, Runts, Gobstoppers... oh my! All the best candy from when we were growing up.

We couldn't help but stock up on our favorites (even at a ridiculous $11.98/lb)... and the rest of the afternoon was spent on a serious sugar high.

do it: say goodbye to 2010

do it

It's no secret that I'm pretty excited to bid farewell to 2010. While I did have some fun times, I'm definitely looking forward to starting fresh with a new year. I don't really make resolutions- instead I make "to do" lists of all kinds of things I want to do in a new year. I crossed quite a few things off my 2010 list, including go to the opera, have 3 new friends that I didn't have last New Year's Eve, drop a dress size, get tattoo #5 (and #6!), go to 5 concerts (I went to waaaay more than that), and start a new blog. I'm happy to be starting 2011 with a fresh slate, new goals and challenges, and a positive outlook for things to come! Did you make resolutions for the new year?
